Jack LaVigne Receives
2025 Jacoby Award

By Jerry Harrington

Awards Committee Chair

This year’s Oswald and James Jacoby Service Award is presented to Jack LaVigne of Houston. District 16’s Premier Service Award, it was established in 1982 to honor those volunteers who have worked diligently at the unit level and risen to recognition at the district level after many years of outstanding service to bridge.

Nominated by his Houston Unit 174, Jack served in many capacities including Unit President. During his tenure, Jack was tasked with keeping our Board of Directors focused during the pandemic. After covid caused the closing of one of the largest clubs in Houston and the ACBL, Jack joined a group of Houstonians and formed the Bridge Academy of West Houston and continues to manage the club and its multiple games today.

In 2019, Jack accepted the role of District 16 Recorder as another way to ‘give back’ to our bridge community.  Jack then was approached to be District 16 President. During his first year, he was able to coordinate the upgrade of the District website which had eluded the two prior District Presidents.  Jack has proven to be an effective leader and valuable communicator of district business. In recognition of his service to bridge at the club, unit and most of all at district level, District 16 is proud to award Jack the Oswald and James Jacoby award for 2025. Congratulations Jack, on this well-deserved recognition!
